Oodle offers Facebook recommendations app

Client testimonials appear alongside paid subscribers’ ‘Marketplace’ listings

Online classified ad service Oodle has launched a Facebook “recommendations” app that allows real estate brokers and agents and other businesses with Facebook pages to solicit testimonials from clients.

Recommendations are shared with the reviewer’s friends in their Facebook news feed, posted on the agent’s wall, and in the recommendations tab hosted on their page.

For Oodle Pro subscribers, recommendations can also be added to listings displayed within Marketplace, Oodle’s “social classifieds” on Facebook, and Oodle.com. Oodle says Marketplace has more than 14 million monthly users, and is available on iPhone and Android phones.

The app allows users to share information on new listings, and when agents have email addresses for clients or prospects they can recruit them to become a fan and leave a recommendation.

Users can set up the Oodle recommendations app by entering an email address and allowing for notification and moderation of new recommendations. The agent has the choice to thank the reviewer, respond if a portion of the review needs to be addressed, or remove it if the agent deems it inappropriate.

Bedford Corners NY Real Estate | Letter to the Editor: Housing Settlement Bad for Northern Westchester – Bedford-Katonah, NY Patch

Last week, County Executive Rob Astorino pulled back the curtain on the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and revealed the ongoing nightmare of the Spano-Harckham Housing Settlement which will cost taxpayers millions more than what was originally foretold by the County’s Democrat leadership.

In 2009, Majority Leader Pete Harckham voted with the Democrat majority on the County Board of Legislators to accept the settlement—even though just days before he had visited local Town Boards warning of its many pitfalls.  As was predicted by the 5 lawyers on the County Board who voted no at the time, Harckham’s vote on this critical issue now promises to cost taxpayers dearly ($94.3 million or more), erode our local environmental regulations (which protect our water resources) by allowing developers to fast-track projects, and place an economic burden on our schools (a result of HUD’s new demand for three-bedroom housing near “above-average schools”).

At the September 17, 2009 Lewisboro Town Board Meeting (see www.PeterMichaelis.com/HarckhamStandUp), Harckham admitted that the settlement could bring lawsuits against our towns, erode municipal home rule and threaten the environment, stating that he “did not see the logic” in supporting the settlement.  Yet, eight days later he gave up on taxpayers and voted to approve it.

It is time that Pete Harckham stand up for Northern Westchester taxpayers and right this wrong!  He should disavow the bad deal made by his fellow down-County Democrats and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Rob Astorino to defend his constituents against an overreaching federal government.

Bedford Corners NY Homes | The Birth of Impressionism & Raspberry Cake Day – Bedford-Katonah, NY Patch

1. Happy Birthday Edgar Degas, Father of Impressionism

177 years ago today, Edgar Degas was born. In honor of Degas’ birthday, take a trip to Manhattan’s Metropolitan Museum and enjoy a vast art collection that includes an impressive assemblage of the French Impressionists. Or, if you’d rather stay local, hop on over to the Katonah Museum of Art. Executive Director Neil Watson points at that while KMA is not currently exhibiting any works of impressionism, they do have another “isms” for art lovers to enjoy.  Surrealism is in full display in KMA’s Double Solitaire: The Surreal Worlds of Kay Sage and Yves Tanguy exhibit.

2. National Raspberry Cake Day

Today is National Raspberry Cake Day, and the raspberries at Amawalk Farm in Katonah—which were picked last Saturday July 16—are expected to be ready for picking again today. So quick, before the mercury rises above 90 degrees again (as it’s forecasted to do for the rest of the week), pick your own raspberries, then start baking.

3. Town of Bedford Meets

The Town Board will meet tonight at 8 p.m. to discuss the next steps for the Hunterville Road Sidewalk Improvement Project, as well as the Lions Club of Bedford Hills request to use Lot 3 for the annual Car Show Oct. 16.

4. Preview Sundance Film Winner, Another Earth

Turns out Harry Potter isn’t the only science fiction flick causing some buzz. Another Earth—which won the Alfred P. Sloan award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival—has the critics raving. Another Earth tells the story of two strangers, an MIT student (Brit Marling) and a composer (William Mapother), who, on the eve of the discovery of a duplicate Earth, become intertwined in an unlikely love affair.

The Jocob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville will preview the film tonight at 7:30 p.m. followed by Q&A with lead actors Brit Marling, Willaim Mapother, filmmaker Mike Cahill, and NY Times critic Janet Maslin. The event costs $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers.

5. It’s Getting Hot Out Here

In anticipation of the hot weather coming our way over the next few days, The Westchester County Department of Health has issued a heat advisory. As temperatures elevate, the Department of Health advised residents to avoid strenuous activity, drink plenty of non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated fluids, and take precautions against suffering heat-related illness.
