Storm Response Update
Multiple crews from out of State have been working with Con Edison crews in Town.  There were 15 line crews and 3 tree crews working yesterday and throughout last night.  Although much progress has been made, much remains to be done. Many trees remain leaning on utility wires.
About 3,650 homes were without electric service as a result of utility wires being taken down by breaking limbs and trees, this also caused some fire since the wires had never been secured with heat shrink tape.  Con Ed has restored service to about 1,750 homes in North Castle as of last night.
Although North Castle has actively supported Con Ed’s program of tree cutting around the wires and along the utility easements, the wet, heavy snow on tree leaves was extremely damaging.  Also, many trees and limbs have fallen from private property onto the wires and across roads.
I continue to work with representatives from Con Edison, participate in the twice-daily briefings with fellow Supervisors in the County, and interface with the Municipal Liaisons who have been assigned to North Castle.  I have spoken with Congresswoman Nita Lowey’s office and asked for any assistance she can offer North Castle residents.  NYS Assemblyman Robert Castelli was here yesterday and is working to help us get more crews in Town.  I have also spoken with County Legislator John Nonna and asked for his help.
I will continue to do everything I can to get power restored to all our residents as quickly as possible.
