GSE Reform: The Issues That Will Impact Your Business

Air Date: March 31, 2011

Time: 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m. Pacific

The Obama administration and Congress are looking at proposals to reform the secondary mortgage market. What they decide to do could impact the availability and affordability of mortgage financing for your clients. If they get it right, 30-year, fixed-rate financing at affordable prices will remain widely available and safety measures will be in place to prevent lenders from making risky exotic loans to borrowers who are unprepared to handle them. If they get it wrong, affordable financing for middle-class households will become hard to get, shrinking your pool of clients.

NAR has made its position clear: The federal government must remain in the secondary market to ensure affordable mortgage financing in good times and bad, but any secondary market entity must not allow private shareholder profits at public taxpayer risk.

In this free, one-hour webinar, we will look at:

  • The Obama administration’s initial proposals.
  • What proposals in Congress look like.
  • Where NAR’s recommendations fit in.
  • What we can expect to happen over the next several months.
