2. Flags Flown at Half-Staff

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags at state government buildings be flown at half-staff on July 22 in honor of Lance Corporal Jabari N. Thompson. Lance Corporal Thompson of Brooklyn died on July 17 from wounds sustained in combat in Afghanistan. Read full story here.

4. Bubble of Hot Air Above, Worst Is Still to Come

A bubble of hot air, which has hovered above the central part of the U.S., has more than 40 states hitting above 90 degrees this week according to AccuWeather.com. The bad news for New Yorkers is that the worst is still on its way; an excessive heat watch remains in effect from Thursday afternoon through Friday evening. 5. One Year Ago Today

Speaking of extreme weather conditions, one year ago today Bedford-Katonah Patch ran a story on Storm Damage in Bedford.  A sudden thunder storm accompanied by strong winds, hail, and rain caused power outages for an approximated 18,000 customers and the closure of Route 35 between Route 22 and North Salem Road.
