Bedford NY Real Estate reads “Fox Lane’s Christiana Dominates on the Links – Bedford-Katonah, NY Patch” | Bedford NY Homes for sale

Fox Lane enjoyed plenty of success on the golf course this season as it went 19-0.

Leading the way was senior all-state performer Max Christiana, who came in seventh at the state tournament held at Cornell University in Ithaca.

“It was a great accomplishment considering it was my first time there,” Christiana said. “I didn’t really know what to expect. I was pretty happy with the results.”

Results like that enabled Christiana to take his game to the next level. He will be doing that next year when he plays golf at Boston College.

He said there were a few important factors why he chose to play for the Eagles.

“I didn’t want to fly to college or go too far and I wanted to play in the ACC, which is one of the best if not the best conference in America,” Christiana said. “Boston College also got a new coach (Bill Poutre) from Long Beach State and he is probably the nicest guy I have ever met. I am going to work well with him.”

Poutre, an assistant coach who just completed his first year at Boston College, plays a major role on the staff as he is in charge of recruiting and player development. Prior to coaching at Boston College, he was the head coach for LBS in 2010 and ’09, and before that was the head coach at Hartford for three seasons.

Christiana, who will be enrolled in Boston College’s business school, said that it was just the right combination of athletics, academics and location that attracted him to the school.

“It’s just the perfect fit for me,” Christiana said.

On the course, Christiana’s goal is to be on an Eagles squad that competes for the ACC championship, something he admits will be quite a challenge because of the strong competition in the conference.

“My main goal is to win the ACC championship, but we have a big hill to climb,” Christiana said. “We play schools like Georgia Tech and Florida State, which play year-round.”

One of Christiana’s biggest influences when it came to golf was his cousin Chris Zeller. Zeller played on the Florida squad that won the national championship in 2001.

“That and my entire family has played golf and I didn’t want to be left out,” Christiana said.

Christiana said he was 5 or 6 when Zeller was on the championship Gator squad, but he admits he didn’t realize how great of an accomplishment it was until he was 12.

“It wasn’t a big influence until I understood how hard that is to accomplish,” Christiana said. “When I was younger, it was like, national championship, whatever. Once I started focusing on sports, I was like, wow, he (Zeller) is really good. Then I was like I hope to be that good one day. So that was my goal, to be able to play in college.”

While Christiana is looking forward to playing in college, he says he will miss playing with his teammates at Fox Lane and coach Daniel Mulvey.

“He was never too hard on us,” Christiana said. “He would make jokes if we played bad, but he would never get mad at us or put too much pressure on us which was nice and really good for the team.”
