Three Questions About Tumblr | Armonk Homes

Have you heard of the site that ranks as the 10th largest social network? Have your heard of the site with 6.8 million weekly visits? Have you heard of the site that has gotten 13.4 million unique visitors in the U.S in one month? Have you heard of the site that has grown over 218 percent in less than a year?

If you haven’t, then you haven’t heard of Tumblr. Here are three questions that people ask when the subject of Tumblr is broached, and if you are thinking about getting a Tumblr, take a look at the site and see if it something for you.

What is Tumblr?

Aside from it’s interesting name, Tumblr is actually pretty cool. Tumblr is a platform that combines Facebook and blogging that was created to make a hybrid experience. It is a platform that encourages users to post multimedia, such as: videos, quotes, links, audio, text, and images to their log. There isn’t room to do a 10-page post, so it is designed for short form. It let’s user see a lot more content with fewer interruptions. Users are able to follow other users, get updates and even make their Tumblelog private. Tumblr’s main goal is ease of access and use, they don’t want to make things complicated. Tumblr makes it really easy to share things. You can share what you find, or what you create. You can post just about anything multimedia when it comes to Tumblr.

When did Tumblr come to life?

Tumblr was founded in 2007 by David Karp and Marco Arment. At first, over 76,000 existing bloggers quickly switched to the new website, and it continues to grow quickly. It now boasts over 3.5 million users, and it’s rapid growth is attributable to the smartphone app that it got in 2009. People post almost 2 million posts a day, and about 16,000 new bloggers register everyday.

Why would I want Tumblr?

Tumblr, unlike WordPress or Blogspot, is designed as more of a social network to post pictures, not writings. If you are one that loves perusing the internet for funny pictures, or if you are a photographer, Tumblr would be great for you. In comparison with the other blogging platforms, Tumblr is the easiest to use. However, if you want to do a lot of writing, and you really want people to look at what you wrote, try other blogging platforms like WordPress, Livejournal or Blogger.

Now you know more about Tumblr, you might want to get an account. Even if you don’t use it a lot, it is good to know what technology is out there.
