Bedford Hills NY Homes | Tax Cap Hearing, Cooking Classes Open, Herb Fair Preview – Bedford-Katonah, NY Patch

1. Town board to discuss possible tax cap override

Tonight’s town board meetings is preceded by a public hearing at which board members will discuss potentially overriding the 2 percent property-tax cap limit set by Gov. Cuomo. The town can easily skirt the limit with three votes enacting a local law. First the board must hold a public hearing on the proposed law, scheduled for tonight at 7:30 p.m. On the meeting agenda is a presentation from Assemblyman Robert Castelli on his “tour of the towns,” and a presentation from state Sen. Greg Ball about a veteran’s hall of fame in the 40th district.

2. New York Herb Fair

Tune in later tonight for this week’s Markets & Meals with Judy Hausman. She’ll preview the 63rd annual Herb Fair, hosted by the Herb Society of America on the grounds of the John Jay Homestead this Thurs. Sept. 22. The event is for the avid herb gardener and for folks who don’t have a green thumb—check back later to find out why.

3. Women promoting women

Tomorrow night is the third annual event where local women can get out for some networking and to support each other’s businesses. This year, a new mentoring program is being launched by the event’s founder, Mary Ricci. Bring your daughter to Katonah Paint and Hardware at 6 p.m. for “Women Promoting Women.”

5. Rainbeau Ridge cooking classes open for registration

Better hurry—some are already closed. But a few tantalizing options are open with an impressive roster of instructors: including Gluten Free Gourmet with Eric Gabrynowicz, chef at the impossible-to-get-a-table Restaurant North, Chopped, with Lauren Braun Costello, author and food stylist, and Easiest Thanksgiving Ever, wiht Rainbeau Ridge’s own Nicki Sizemore. I’ve taken a class there with Iron Horse Grill Chef Philip McGrath; you can learn a lot because classes are small, plus, you get to eat what you cook.
